Rock & Mineral Society Show

I have lately become interested in all things rocks and minerals.  I've always thought they were cool but maybe it is the recent trend in rocks that has renewed my interest...

I saw online that the Rock and Mineral Society was doing their annual show in Wichita this weekend and thought it might be a fun family activity.  I've been showing the girls cool things to make with rocks and minerals for jewelry so I figured they might like it.  The show wasn't that big but was packed. It was hard to make it around the tables because people were pretty serious about their rocks.

I have a small collection that was given to me by a friend of my old babysitter's years ago and thought it would be fun to add to my collection.  I bought 2 pieces of Agate from Brazil and one piece of Rose Quartz. I love the colors in the Agate.  They had a guy who was selling geodes that he would break open for you... we were really tempted to do it but didn't.  We did watch while others did and it was very cool to see what the insides revealed.

I've also recently been making necklaces from slices of Agate that I purchased online.  I love the look of Agate and now that long necklaces are back, it is a perfect match for a great necklace.  I have been thinking about putting them up for sale on Hobby + Hound Etsy page for fun.  The bohemian look is in with the tween and teen girls so I have been working on ones for my girls and nieces as well.

I know that there is an annual show in Tuscon, AZ that is huge and lasts a couple of weeks each year.  I think it would be a lot of fun to go one year.  I can only imagine what amazing things they have there.
